Moving On...

The Scientist for Life class has finished their blog project. We are still discussing global warming and using the information we found in our blogs, but we are no longer updating them. This project was a success and we all learned a lot. Our only difficulty was with how intense it was to write such scholarly work each night for a week. Next year, we'll spread this out a little more. Thanks for visiting our blogs.

Our Discussion on Whether Global Warming is Real
Our next class discussion topic is: Is global warming real?
I would ask the students in the class to post their concerns about the reality of global warming to this blog page. It would be a good idea to know what specific issues we need to address.

Including Links Within Your Actual Post
You are all doing a great job of referring to your resources within your posts. I would like to suggest another way to do this. When you're typing your post, you can actually create a hyperlink. So, for instance, if you write (source 1) after some information, you could now write this (source 1)--this will take you directly to the website for the resource.
You can create this hyperlink by
1. Opening the resource weblink in another tab, highlighting the URL and copying it.
2. Back in your post, highlight the word you want to be the hyperlink--"source 1" in our example.
3. Click on the link button (up on the toolbar, to the left of the justification choices)--it looks like chain links with a globe below them.
4. Paste in your URL.
Try it!

Ideas for Improving Your Blogs
I have read almost everyone's first substantial entry. You have all chosen different ways to introduce your topic. I'd like to present some of the positive attributes I've seen...
1. Giving a title to each entry
2. Referring to each resource using a number
3. Separating your paragraphs with an extra line
All of the comments I have read are also interesting and exactly what I was hoping for.
Keep up the great work!

Scientist for Life & Blogs
As a first assignment in our global warming unit, each student in Scientist for Life will be “blogging for expertise” (as described by Will Richardson in his book) on a topic related to global warming. Please see the list of topics and links to each student’ blog at the right. Feel free to share your own expertise with us by commenting on our blogs.

Welcome to Scientist for Life!
Scientist for Life is a new senior science elective at our school. One of our goals is to incorporate technology into our curriculum. We hope to use blogs in two ways in the near future. First, we'd like our students to post their ideas for an educational advertising campaign focussed on global warming. Second, each student will post the summary of a current event in our current area of study and then lead/moderate a discussion on it.
